Today, 21.02.2012, I left Auckland for a ceramic art residency at Waikato Studio Potters in Hamilton.
2+1+0+2+2+0+1+2=10=1. If those in the know are to be believed, 1 is all about new beginnings; quite appropriate I guess, for heading off to a new town to try out a few creative ideas. I wonder which, over the next eight months, which will take hold, blossom and bear fruit? You’ll have to follow this blog to find out!
Auckland was overcast but the Waikato was stunning. Not the physical slaming-type stunning as one hit the smell of silage on the Bombay Hills, but the awsome, beautiful-type stunning as one finally topped the hills and looked down onto and across the Waikato. The day was gorgeous and the plains were a patchwork of green with grey tarmac ribbons threaded through it. The ranges on the horizon were bluey green. The Waikato River itself, edging the road to the right, really was Mighty. It looked so calm on the surface. Ha. When one really looks at it and realises the volume of water sliding by, it can give you goose bumps.
Arrived safe and sound at my new lodgings 1 hr 50 min later. Hardly a trip to the other side of the world. Feels eons from home though.
